SEE PHOTO(s) - COMPLETE ORIGINALSunday Color Magazine section of the Baltimore American (MD) newspaper dated Oct 25, 1931. This original newspaper Sunday color magazine sectioncontains a large, 18\" x 15\" color engraving titled: \"And the Star Spangled Banner in Triumph Doth Wave O\'er the Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave...\" This highly displayable section shows Francis Scott Key observing the Battle of Ft McHenry in Baltimore, MD during the War of 1812.

This is the view of Francis Scott Key (painted by artist PERCY MORAN circa 1913) showing when Key got the idea to write what became the national anthem, The \"Star Spangled Banner\". It shows Keyas a prisoner on a British warship in the Baltimore Harbor, viewing Ft McHenry (seen in the background of the engraving) with the US flag (the star spangled banner) wavingover the fort in the background.

The \"Star Spangled Banner\" officially became the National Anthem in 1931 and this painting was painted to memorialize that event in the War of 1814.

The painting shows Francis Scott Key standing on the British warship, with his right arm stretched out toward the United States flag flying over Fort McHenry, Baltimore, Maryland.

Edward Percy Moran (1862-1935) created this oil painting around 1912 or 1913. It depicts the artist’s version of Francis Scott Key realizing that the American flag was still flying at Fort McHenry, despite a vicious battle between British and U.S. forces during the War of 1812.

Major Armistead had refused to take down the flag or surrender the fort. At dawn\'s first light, Francis Scott Key saw the huge flag. It was still flying over Ft. McHenry. Baltimore was safe. What had happened during the night? Why had the night sky suddenly gone dark? Unknown to Key, the courage of Armistead and his Baltimore defenders had convinced the British high command the fight for Baltimore would be too costly.

During the night, both land and sea operations ceased. The British withdrew from the battle.
