View:Picturesque view of the Lincoln Monument, located in the Oak Ridge Cemetery in Springfield, Illinois.From the back of the card, “The foundation for the tomb was laid in 1869 and the superstructure was completed in 1871 at a cost of $180,000.In 1901 it was rebuilt at a cost of $100,000 and in 1931 an appropriation of $175,000 was voted to rebuild the structure (yet again).The obelisk rises 117 feet above the sidewalk and the base of the structure is seventy feet square and fifteen feet high.The monument contains the bodies of Abraham Lincoln – 16thPresident of the U.S.A. – Mrs. Lincoln and three of the four Lincoln children.
