This serving set is a 1930's Antique West Virgina Royal China 22K Gold Service Plate with 6 Dessert plates that was not only displayed as decorative, but also used socially for a Wedding and is a souvenir. These are nearly 100 years old and still gorgeous as the gold shimmers in the light. Displaying this set would start any awkward conversation and impress everyone who sees them, even those of the dreaded in-laws.
NOTE: The reverse of the large server plate does have a chip from it as seen in the photos butdoes not detract from the front. One dessert plate has a unique design made from crazing on both front and back as seen in photos. All issues are tagged in a photo.
History:
There is a West Virginia Royal China Company called the Paden City Pottery Co.Paden City Pottery, established in 1914, was the first industry in the new city. George R. Wallace, a Pittsburgh attorney was the first president. The company initially made art ware and kitchenware in brown and white.In the 1920s, under the direction of PresidentCharles S. Ray, Paden City Pottery began manufacturing high quality, semi-porcelain dinnerware. Paden City was a pioneer in the production of semi-porcelain and in using a spraying apparatus to apply colored glazes. A commitment to continually purchase new equipment designed to speed up the production process helped the company weather the Depression. J. W. Mackey joined Paden City in 1930 as its sales manager.Paden City introduced its Papoco line in 1930 and Regina line in 1931. The Bak-Serv line followed. New dinnerware lines were introduced on a regular base. Paden City Pottery worked closely with Paden City Glass to create complementary pieces to each other’s lines.
