While complete returns are not in as yet, Mrs. McCormick\'s victory is assured and a plurality of 150,000 votes may be recorded over her opponent, Senator Charles S. Deneen. Mrs. McCormick is the widow of the late Senator Medill McCormick who was defeated by Deneen in 1924 by a plurality of 5,944 votes. It has been said that the defeat at the hands of Deneen, broke McCormick\'s heart and resulted in his death one year later. This victory of his widow seems a just revenge. Her opposition to the entry of the United States into the world court was the predominant issue in Mrs. McCormick\'s campaign speeches. Ruth Hanna was born in 1880 and early in life began to take an active interest in politics. She served her father as secretary and when she married Medill McCormick in 1903 she was his most trusted adviser. In 1924 Mrs. McCormick was chosen Republican committeewoman from Illinois, and in 1928 she was elected representative-at-large from her state. If elected to the senate, Mrs. McCormick will be the first regularly-elected, woman to sit in that body here is a series of photographs of Mrs. McCormick, her father and husband.
