It was first organized in 1867 under the nameGoodall, Nelson and Perkins. TheGoodall, Nelson & Perkins Steamship Companywas formed in 1875, but a year later was reorganized as the Pacific Coast Steamship Company.

Pacific Coast Steamship Company was the first to pioneer pleasure travel. The business, which first bounded Alaska and the Pacific Northwest,

The company effectively ceased business in 1916 when its vessels were purchased by theAdmiral Line. The Admiral Line however also adopted the name \"ThePacific Steamship Company\", which it used until 1936 when operations ceased, victims of theGreat Depressionin general and especially of the1934 West Coast waterfront strike.
