1920s MOLLIE KING Actress Card HORN CANDIES Movie Stars SILENT FILM STARS Albany:
$19.99

This card was issued by D.B.HORN of Albany New York, as an advertising give away to promote theirCandies, Ice Cream Cigars and Tobacco. Ibelieve that they were a General Store as well as having a Soda Bar as theymention their Sodas and Sundays as well. The bottom of the back of the card also mention that the “Movie Stars onthe Reverse Side Seen at Colonial Theatre” which I imagine was the local moviehouse. This is an early example of crossmarking . I have not found this seriesrecorded in any guide that I am aware of (American Card Catalogue, Non-Sports Bibleect.). The front of each card feature a blackand white photographic image of a prominentmovie star at the time. Although there is no know exact date of issue it isthough to have been in the 1920’s when most of the actors featured in theseries were in prominence. The card measures 2 inches by 3 3/8 inchesapproximately. This Card features Mollie King . Here is some info I found about her on theinternet. . Mollie King (born Mary Josephine King;April 16, 1895 – December 28, 1981) was an American stage and screenactress. Mollie King was born in NewYork City in 1895, the daughter of Ellen Mary (née Kearney) and Thomas JosephKing, both natives of Ireland. Two of her older siblings, Charles King andNellie King also became actors and were likely instrumental in obtaining earlierroles for her in theatre. Mollie began working professionally on stageat the age of seven. Later, by age 16, she was appearing at the Winter GardenTheatre and at other Broadway venues. A few of her stage credits include roles inGood Morning, Judge and Blue Eyes. Kingsigned with Pathé before moving into film acting. She was cast in leading roles in two John M.Stahl directed films, and also starred in serials. George Irving directed herin the film Her Majesty. She laterreturned to the stage, appearing with her brother Charles King in a musicalcomedy Good Morning, Judge. In 1918,King tried to enlist as an ambulance driver for the US Army in France. It tooktwo sergeants and a first lieutenant to convince her that women are no wantedat that position. King married Kentuckydistiller Kenneth D. Alexander in 1919. The couple remained married until Kenneth\'sdeath in Arkansas in July 1935. King later married Thomas H. Claffey. In 1981, at age 86, King died in FortLauderdale, Florida. Her gravesite, however, is in her hometown of New YorkCity, at Woodlawn Cemetery in the Bronx.

The card has someslight edge and corner wear, but it isfree from major creases. I think it displaysnicely. I have scanned the front and back of the cardfairly large for you to be able to judge condition for yourself.
