1920s Japan Flag Card Laurel Candy Co V154 Cancelled Type Toronto Canada #6:
$29.99

This RARE card wasissued by the LAUREL CONFECTIONERYCO. LTD. Of Toronto Ontario Canada,as an insert premium with their brands of Candy Bars. This card is from a scarce series of cards entitled, “National Flags” designatedas V154 in Burdick’s American Card Catalogue. I have not been able to ascertain an exactdate for this series in my research but I believe it was issued during the 1920’s (the heyday of CanadianConfectionary cards) . The front of thecard features an image of the national flag and an inset image of what Ibelieve to be the coats of arms of the country as well. Theart work used for this series, Ibelieve is unique to this set. Theydiffer from the many other flag series issuedincluding Allen & Ginter series. Theback features a mail in premium exchange offer for a 9 by 9 sateen flag in exchange for a fullset sent to the company. It also mentionsthat the cards would be cancelled and mailed back with the flag. THISIS A RARE CANCELLED BACK VARTIATION TYPE.You don’t come across these very often. The not often seen purple ink cancelled stampis on the back. This is #6 in the series and features JAPAN. The Card measures 2 9/16 inches by 1 1/8 inchesapproximately. The card has some edge and corner wear, but it is free from major creases. I have scanned the card fairly large for you to be able to judgecondition for yourself .THESE CARDS WERENEVER ISSUED IN THE U.S. or UK Due to the lower population in Canada than in the USA andUK, print runs in Canada were much smaller compared with American and British Cards. Because of this the majority of all Canadiannon sports cards are far scarcer than cards issuedin the USA & UK.
