1920s CANADIAN TREES Card COWAN\'S Chocolate V11 PAPER BIRCH Cowan Cocoa:

This scarce cardis one in a series of 16 cards issued in Canada bythe Cowan Confectionery Company of Stirling Road Toronto Ontario Canada.One was insertedinto each package of their Cowan’s Chocolate and Cocoa . They are listedas series V11 in Burdick’s American Card Catalogue, they are entitled “CANADIAN FOREST TREES”. Although no guide that I am aware of gives adefinite date of issue for this series it is generally assumed to have been in the 1920’s era possible earlier. Thefront of each card features an image of the tree leaf, and seed. The Back of the card features a briefdescription of the tree and its environment.It also mentions these were issued to help boy scouts and trail rangerand girl scout identify trees in nature.This card is number 5 in the series and features the PAPER BIRCH. TheCard measures 5 3/8 inches by 2 1/4 inches approximately. The card does have some creasing and wear. I have scannedthe front and back of the card fairly large so you can determine the conditionfor yourself. THESECARDS WERE NEVER ISSUED IN THE U.S. or UK Due to the lower population in Canada than in the US andUK, print runs in Canada were much smaller compared with American and British Cards. (Because ofthis the majority of all Canadian non sports cards are far scarcer than cardsissued in the USA).
