Up for sale is a Large 1920’s Original Photo taken at Bal Tabarin in Paris. For somewhat obvious reasons, photos of Cabaret Stage Performers were extremely rare (most photos from inside were taken of the audience, or staged shoots for marketing. Bal Tabarin and Moulin Rouge shared artistic directors and shortly after opening, Bal Tabarin was fully purchased by Moulin Rouge.

The photo measures approximately: 9” x 11.5”

Condition:

General signs of age. Slight creasing and smudges on front. The reverse has slight yellowing.

Please view the photos carefully as they are an important part of the description.  Please email if you have any questions or need clarification so you can be satisfied with your purchase.

More about the subject, photo or photographer:

Opened in 1904 by composer and orchestra leader Auguste Bosc, the establishment became an immediate success. In 1928, Pierre Sandrini and Pierre Dubout took over, introducing ballet to the floor shows and transforming them into spectacular tableaux with dress designs by Erté. Each year featured a new themed show, such as The Planets or The Symphony, sometimes inspired by historical figures like Cleopatra or Madame de Pompadour. During the occupation of Paris, frequented by German officers, South African dancer Florence Waren performed there, later joining forces with Frederic Apcar to form the duo "Florence et Frederic," appearing alongside Edith Piaf and Maurice Chevalier while aiding the French Resistance.
