Tellegen, Lou. New York. Turn back the clock. It's the spring of 1916 and Geraloine Farrar and Lou Tellegen are enjoying a honeymoon breakfast at the pinnacle of their fame. "Gerry," prima donna of the Metropolitan Opera Company, is the pet of the musical world. Tellegen is the matinee idol of the day. Their marriage climaxed a romance that found a sympathetic response throughout the entire country. The marriage did not last long. After living apart for some time Miss Farrar obtained a divorce in 1923. Tellegn was hailed as the "great lover" both on and off the stage and the story of his life belittled the plots of most of his plays. He was married four times. He died at the age of 52 by stabbing himself to death with a scissors at the home of a benefactress in Los Angeles. In poor health, poor financial straights and his popularity waning, Tellegen was obsessed by the fear that he was losing his mind. Photo measures 8.5 x 6.75inches. Photo is dated --1916.
