Lemberg, the capital of the Austrian province of Galicia and held by the Russians since September 3rd last when they entered the city after inflicting a crushing defeat on the Austrians, has been conquered by the second German army under General von Mackensen. Since May 1st, the German commanders big guns have been smashing the whole of the Russian line on the Donajec River, compelling the Czar\'s forces to abandon all their hard won positions in the Carpathians. The photo shows a typical Ruthenian church in Calicia the scene of the German drive against Lamberg. The church is used as a workshop by the Germans.Photo measures 8.5 x 6.5inches.
