1910s WW1 era CANADIAN MILITIA INSIGNIA Card V15 COWANS Chocolate Cowan #4 War:
$49.99

This scarce cardis one in a series of cards issued in Canada bythe Cowan Confectionery Company of Stirling Road Toronto Ontario Canada. One was insertedinto each package of their Cowan’s Royal Milk Chocolate (as stated on the backof each card ). They are listed as series V15 in Burdick’s American CardCatalogue, they are entitled “Insigniaof Canadian Militia Officers”. Burdick,in the ACC mistakenly list the series as being complete at 24, but the carditself indicates that there are only 15 cards in the series. Althoughno guide that I am aware of provides a date of issue, based on the fact thatthese are WW1 era uniforms and some of the cards in this series also advertise “Cowan’sActive Service Chocolate Pure and Strong The Perfect Food for our Soldier” onsome of the card back, I assume them to have been issued During World War Oneso sometime during 1914-1918. The front of each card features the Insigniaand Uniform of the different Rank of the Canadian Militia. The Back of the card features a briefdescription of the Rank and Uniform. Eachif the backs are different some cases the backs also feature either semaphoresignals, or other Signal codes The Backof the card also indicates that there are 15 Cards in the series, and arenumbered both on the front This card is number 4 in the series andfeatures a SERGEANTThe Card measures 5 3/8 inches by 2 1/4inches approximately. The card does have some creasing and various wear. I have scannedthe front and back of the card fairly large so you can determine the conditionfor yourself. THESECARDS WERE NEVER ISSUED IN THE U.S. or UK.Due to the lower population inCanada than in the US, print runs inCanada were much smaller comparedwith American Cards. Because of thisthe majority of all Canadian non sports cards are far scarcer than cards issued in the USA. And UK.
