CONDITION: It has normal letter folds,small tatter on top left edgeand is invery goodcondition. The little " ITEM" thing is just a loose piece of paper that is not attached to the statement. This item is sold AS IS.

SOME INTERESTING HISTORICAL NOTES:

George W. ArledgeGeorge W. Arledge came to Nolan County in 1906 to look at the John R. Lewis and Sons ranch which was for sale. His nephew, J. S. Arledge, had established the 69 Ranch, near Maryneal, as the

Hassell-Arledge Cattle Companyin 1904.

Mr. J. S. Arledge sent word to his uncle to come to West Texas to see the Lewis Ranch.


Mr. Arledge arrived in Sweetwater on the Texas & Pacific and hired a hack to take him to the

69 Ranch. At that time, Maryneal had not been founded. The next day, G… Read More eorge W. Arledge and J. S. Arledge drove the hack to the Lewis Ranch and looked the ranch over. Mr. Arledge completed the trade and bought 14 sections of land from Mr. Lewis, whose son, the late Charlie Lewis, was Nolan County Judge for a number of years.Two of Mr. Arledge's sons and their families soon came to Maryneal, as he was partners with his sons.Harve Arledge, his wife Lillian, and daughter, Frances (Mrs. Frances Guest of 711 James), arrived in 1907 and moved to the old Lewis headquarters on Eagle Creek.Joe Arledge, his wife Lydia, and children George, Calla Mae and Jo Ella, came to Nolan County in 1909. His descendants live in Coke County but maintain a home at 707 James, Sweetwater.T. E. (Em) Arledge came to Nolan County in 1912 to look at the country and bought six and a quarter sections of land from his father. He moved to the Eagle Creek Ranch in 1913 with his wife Zella and children Henry, Roy and Emily.George Arledge came to the ranch several times a year checking on things. About 1915 he traded the Eagle Creek Ranch to Dr. Rudd for the Bar X Ranch in Nolan and Coke Counties. Joe Arledge and family moved to the Bar X Ranch.George W. Arledge (1845-1923) and his wife, Frances E. Arledge (1848-1918) are both buried at the Maryneal, Texas cemetery.
