John Quincy Adams Ward (1830-1910), notable American sculptor, signed this 2 1/2\" x 4 1/4\" piece of cardstock and dated it January 28th 1901.

Ward was a student of Henry Kirke Brown, who included \"J.Q.A. Ward, asst.\" on his George Washington equestrian monument in Union Square. In the late 1850\'s, Ward made a name for himself in Washington D.C. by creating portrait busts of various public figures. He was elected to the National Academy of Design in 1862 and served as its president for several years. Ward was also interested in developing an American school of sculpture and occasionally took on assistants and students, one of whom was sculptor Daniel Chester French. Ward is perhaps best known for his larger-than-life standing statue of George Washington on the steps of Federal Hall National Memorial in New York City.

Condition: Mounting remnants on verso, otherwise in very good condition with a neat, bold signature.
