18th Century 1700s Revolutionary War American Revolution Era Long Knife/ Cuttoe:
18th Century 1700s Revolutionary War Era long knife or short cuttoe sword
Long Knife is in good original condition with signs of corrosion and some pitting on the hand forged Iron Blade measuring approximately 22”inches long with a 16“ inch double sided dagger type blade with discoloration and a light too medium brown patina.
Hilt is turned maple with iron cross guard and Quillion.
Knife has a 3/4 iron tang with iron ferrule. Hilt does have some play around cross guard due too wood shrinkage and slight insect damage see pics for more details.
This example has no makers mark and is likely American blacksmith made as the design follows several other American side knifes. You can find similar examples in swords and blades of the American revolution by George C Neuman
Knife came from a collection in Virginia.
