Very rare and fascinating \"1893 Chromolithograph Trade Card for the Imperial Steel Bar Lever Harrow, featured at the Chicago Columbian World\'s Fair.\" The Card measures approx. 4-1/2 X 3-1/2\" (11.6 cm. X 9 cm.)

We call this a \"trade card\" although it is quite different from the \"normal\" trade card, due to the fact that it is two-sided. What this means is that on one side of the card is a lovely chromolithographic depiction of the Machinery Hall at the World\'s Fair. And on the other side is a lovely advertisement, given out by a company, which participated in the World\'s Fair: The Bucher & Gibbs Plow Co, in Canton, OH. Bucher & Gibbs is advertising their \"Imperial Steel Bar Lever Harrow,\" which is clearly a farming device of some type. The description contains, \"U bars,\" and \"teeth\" and \"Levers\" and Tie bars and \"brackets.\" And the only thing we know for sure about it is that it is some kind of \"new fangled\" plow. (New fangled by 1893 standards.)

This wonderful and original \"1893 Chromolithograph Trade Card\" is printed on a heavy-weight paper, and is in very good condition. One of the corners is slightly bumped, and there is a little bit of wear on the top and bottom edge. The chromolithograph illustrations are very beautiful and striking. It\'s difficult to believe that this card is almost 130 years old. Please the the photos above, to confirm the condition of this card.

It was a World\'s Fair held in Chicago in 1893 to celebrate the 400th anniversary of Christopher Columbus\'s arrival to the New World in 1492. Its scale and grandeur far exceeded the other world\'s fairs, and it became a symbol of the emerging American Exceptionalism.

The centerpiece of the Fair, the large water pool, represented the long voyage Columbus took to the New World. Chicago bested New York City, Washington, D.C., and St. Louis for the honor of hosting the fair. The Exposition was an influential social and cultural event and had a profound effect on architecture, sanitation, the arts, Chicago\'s self-image, and American industrial optimism.
