1890\'s Antique Framed Original PHOTOCHROME Switzerland Swiss Alps Staubbach Falls
Provenance: \"From the home of Edwin & Gladys White, Circa 1926\" is written by hand on the backing board of the frame; most likely by the family which donated this piece to our local Christian charity which runs a soup kitchen, as well as numerous other social programs within the Native American and Hispanic community. There are no dates or other markings on the print or frame.
Based on similar landscapes from this region, I place the production date at around 1890 by Orel Fussli and Company.
Under a jeweler\'s loop, it is not possible to detect any uniformity to the grain and the way the colors and lines overlap, it is an original, large-format photochrome produced from at least 8, and as many as 12 stone pressings in my amateur opinion.The detail up close is quite stunning. The photos above were taken with a 104mp camera and then scaled down to \'s limits. Condition: There is some mold growth forming on the print surface as well as some minor scratches visible upon close inspection. The frame is sturdy with nice petina, but has suffered some damage to the upper right corner and right edge (see photos). The paper seal has almost completely deteriorated. The glass is clean with no cracks or chips.
