This was commissioned by the Church in 1890 together with portraits of all other living Apostles for hanging in the then newly finished Salt Lake Temple in 1893 By C.R Savage Fascinating Story behind the photograph: Joseph F Smith and Charles Savage had been friends for years... After Savage showed Josep F Smith the finished photograph - Joseph F Smith in his own inimitable and humorous way penned the following poem to him: In \"Underground Days,\" as the saying goes, The great C.R.Savage kindly proposed, To take my photograph in modern pose. I gladly consented the Savage to meet, And sit for my picture expecting a treat, To my disappointment, as you may suppose, Instead of my features, he photoed my nose! True my whiskers came in for a liberal share, In the picture before you, as you will declare, But then you\'ll agree with my wail of despair, T\'was a Savage act on the part of C.R.
