This Tobacco card (also referredto as a Cigarette Card) was issuedby the W. Duke & Sons Tobacco Co. ofDurham North Carolina & New York, as an insert premium in their brands of Tobacco and Cigarettes starting in 1889. This card is from a series of 50 cards entitled “Actors & Actresses (Second Series) The series is listedas series N71 in Burdick’s American Card Catalogue. Thefront of the card features Victorian Theater,Opera and Stage Actors and Actresses dressedin a costume of all Nations from 600 B.C. to the 1890’s. The back of the cardfeatures a list of all of the other cards in the series and advertising forDukes Cigarettes and Tobacco. This cardfeatures Effie ShannonTheLithography for the card was done by Knapp & Co. Lithographers of New York.. The Card measures 1 ½ inches by 2 ¾ inchesapproximately. The card has some edge and corner wear, and some areas of discoloration. It is free from major creases. I havescanned the card fairly large foryou to be able to judge condition for yourself
