We are offering 19 letters, dating from 1883 to 1905, from different companies to Farr Alpaca Company, Holyoke, Massachusetts; Moore & Pollard [General Store], Proctorsville, Vermont; Hinkley, Craig & Field, Maine; and a few that were written to individual persons. **NOTE** - Most have very nice vignettes or the company's logo.
There are 9 letters to Farr Alpaca Co., the leading producer of alpaca products in the world - from manufacturers of Yarns; Combed Cotton; Cloth; Blankets; Clothing; Woolens; Machine Parts used in Farr's equipment; and Dyers of Yarn. The companies were located in Hills Grove, RI, New York City, Boston, Providence, R.I, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Cincinnati, Ohio, and Stafford Springs, CT.
There are 6 letters to Moore & Pollard [General Store] - from manufacturers of Crockery, China & Glassware; Hats, Robes & Gloves; Paints & Varnishes; and Hardware & Cutlery. There are two interesting letters from Clark, Adams & Clark, Importers & Wholesalers - the first is an 1883 letter stating they had sent Moore & Pollard a shipment of goods by mistake, providing a list of what they had sent - Chimneys [for kerosene lamps, we assume], mugs & vases; they give prices if Moore & Pollard wished to purchase the items. The 2nd letter (1887) says they had sold their business to Abram French & Co., and "during the next sixty days the stock in our store at No. 65 Franklin St. [Boston] MUST all be disposed of. All these companies were located in Boston.
One letter is to Hinkley, Craig & Field - from a Fur, Hats, Caps, Robes & Gloves company, Portland, Maine saying they had received payment on an invoice.
The next 3 letters are to individuals: 1.) Henry W. Britton, Stoughton, MA from the Whitehead, Hoag & Co., Badges, Buttons, Celluloid and Metal Goods [Newark, NJ] - thanking him for his order of 153 Badges. 2.) Mrs. Mary S. Stowe, Framingham, MA from T. R. Fitzgerald, Attorney, 3.) [Muscatine, Iowa] - stating he had collected rent due from T. Thompson & Co., which had paid for taxes due on the property, insurance, and also his commission. 3.) J. Metcalf, Esq. from Office of Hampshire County Commissioners, Granby, MA - regarding the annual meeting [stockholders] during which "Mr. D. L. Farr said that the Farr Alpaca Co. dividend checks would be sent out Monday next, and perhaps some on Saturday. If I could have mine Saturday, it would be an accommodation".
CONDITION: Very Good / Excellent. The letters are on the smaller letterheads that were used by companies for shorter correspondence (6 x 9 1/2).
