Item 484406◊ 1880s 2 Cabinet Card Photos, Stylish Young Woman & Man From Massachusetts

A rare and original, \"1880s Cabinet Card Photo Combo, Handsome Young Woman and Man From New Bedford and Brockton, Mass.\" They are outstanding, period cabinet card photograph. There is a decorative, element across the bottom of the card woman\'s card in gold-gilt ink. Both cards have gold around the edges . The name of the photographer is in gold-gilt also. Customers paid more for that extra, elegant touch.

Both of these photos measures approx. 5-1/2\" X 4\" (13.8 cm X 10 cm.) and they are mounted on their original beige Card Mount, which measure 6-1/2\" X 4-1/4\" (16.5 cm X 10.7 cm.)

There are SO many things in these photos, which are typical of the 1880\'s: The man\'s wing tip collar for one. The man sports a coat fastened with a single button. And although many men of that time sported facial hair, it was not uncommon to see men, especially younger men, who were clean shaven.

At the bottom of the his card it gives the photographer\'s information: O\'Neil, Hasting\'s Building, New Bedford, Mass. The photographer John O\'Neil operated out of the Hastings\' building in the late 1880\'s, and his business was found in the New Bedford City Directories in 1878,1889 and 1890. We are thankful for that historical information, because there is no other information on the front or back of the card. The back is blank.

The young woman on the right is also classically dressed with her hair in an updo, and with a lace collar and pin closure at the neck.

At the bottom of the card it gives the photographer\'s information: E. T. Bass Photo. P. O Block, Brockton. The similar information is also on the back of the card, plus the fact that it used to be \"Burrell\'s Photography.\" Edward T. Bass operated at this location from 1880 to 1900, according to the Greenough\'s Brockton City Directories. It is based on that and the details in the photo, which helped us date the photo to the 1880\'s.

Both of these wonderful \"Cabinet Card Photos\" are in excellent condition. They have amazing details, of which even a modern-day photographer would be jealous. There is no surface wear, although both cards have just a tad of foxing in front. The edges and corners are are all strong.
