Condition:

Rich tonal image, light aging, mount shows some soiling/aging, edges/corners lightly rubbed/bumped, blank early Curtis view of Italian daredevil Maria Spelterini who was known to walk with peach baskets on her feet, as shown here, as well as wearing chains and shackles. She was the first woman to walk the wire over Niagara E. Curtis (1830-1910) active in the Niagara Falls region late 19th and early 20th centuries. His stereo views were considered some of the best of the era. In the 1870s, he also produced and marketed his own collodion which he touted as made especially for “highly illuminated subjects, water, frost-work, white buildings, shipping, etc.”
