Stereoview photograph of a block of city buildings inChicago, Illinois, by Lovejoy & Foster, dated 1872. The view, from theseries Rebuilt Chicago, 1872, and identified in pencil on the reverse as SuperiorBlock, Clark St., shows four multi story buildings lining a city street. Itlooks like there’s lumber or construction materials still piled up on thesidewalk. The buildings of Clark Street were devastated by the Great ChicagoFire of 1871, so these buildings were built after that. The stereoview is ingood or better condition with light wear and soiling. Note the rubbing at thecorners of the card, as well as the edge wear at bottom on the outside edgesfrom the wire holder of a stereoscope. The photographs exhibit good or bettertonal range and show good or better detail. There are a few light pencil marksin the right photograph. A nice early Chicago IL image!
