Original 1864 cdv photograph of a man wearing many medals. An inked inscription is below his image and reads, as best as I can make out, \"Monsieur le Comte Octava Tasca.\" There is a lengthy inked inscription in the same hand on the back of the cdv which appears to be a thank you and expression of gratitude to a friend. The inscription includes a signature. I can make out the name \"Tasca\" but not the first name which looks something like \"Maisoni\". Below the signature appears to be \"Havana le 2\", then another word that I can\'t make out and then the year \"1864.\"
A helpful person has written us with the following information: \"The writing is in French, not Spanish, and reads as follows: To my dear friend Charly? Nash? as witness of our sincere friendship of eternal gratitude on behalf of your old friend (female) (signed) A. Maisoni signed in Havana\".Also, we are quoting from the email that we received about the cdv as follows: \"These words were likely written by a diplomat.....in the 19th century, French which was the common language used by diplomats of all countries. (The name \"A. Maisoni appears to be Italian). The signature on the back of the card is by Tasca. But, I am not sure if it is Octava who signed it as a favour to A. Maisoni.\" Certainly this photo would benefit from additional research.The front shows a bit of browning and edge wear in the margins but otherwise it is in excellent condition. There are a two small flaws at the left outside edge of the image into the margin that look to be due to a slight miscut and the residue of a bit of brown glue as made.
