1800’S CAST IRON SIGN FROM NATIONAL HISTORIC LANDMARK PITTSBURG “no H” Cast iron sign of The Marshall Foundry and Construction Company of Pittsburg (NO “H”), taken from the National Historic Landmark, the Allegheny County Jail. The Allegheny County Jail and Courthouse were designed by Henry Hobson Richardson, and opened in 1886 after a fire destroyed the previous landmarks in 1882 that totally destroyed those buildings. This cast iron sign measures 13-1/2” x 3-1/8” and was attached to one of the original cell blocks (North Block) as part of the original construction. This sign was removed by me personally duringthe demolition of the old jail’s interior for its renovation into a Family Division Courthouse.
