You are offerding on a SUPERB example of a Edo Period (1600-1850) Antique Japanese Sankaku Yari!

A tanto ('short sword') is one of the traditionally made Japanese swords (nihonto) that were worn by the samurai class of feudal Japan. The tanto dates to the Heian period, when it was mainly used as a weapon but evolved in design over the years to become more ornate. Tanto were used in traditional martial arts (tantojutsu). The term has seen a resurgence in the West since the 1980s as a point style of modern tactical knives, designed for piercing or stabbing

A Sankaku Yari ("triangle spear") has a point that resembles a narrow spike with a triangular cross-section. A sankaku yari therefore had no cutting edge, only a sharp point at the end. The sankaku yari was therefore best suited for penetrating armor, even armor made of metal, which a standard yari was not as suited to. There are two types of sankaku yari: sei sankaku yari, yari blades with a triangular, equilateral cross section, and hira sankaku yari, yari with a triangular, isosceles-shaped cross section.

Made of steel, this Edo Period (1600-1850) Japanese Sankaku Yariis in SUPERB condition considering it's age!There are some slight marks and wear due to the age, but otherwise is in EXCELLENT used condition! The blade, does show some very minor marksand stains, but nothing that detracts. No maker's mark from what I can see. Blade length is approx. 5.25", with an overalllengthof 16". Would make a SUPERB addition to any collection or display!
