#2 2. Henry 2 Stauffer (Vincent1) of Lancaster City, cordwainer, was born September 6, 1739, or , according to the tombstone record in the Trinity Lutheran Churchyard, September 17, 1739, and died on or about May 18, 1805 ( not May 18,1795, as his tombstone records). He married in the Evangelical Lutheran Church, Lancaster, on October 9, 1763, Anna Catherine Pritz, who was born October 19, 1740, and died May 27, 1828. Henry is identified as the son of Vincent for the following reason: (1) the eleven day discrepancy in the birth record and the tombstone record of birth may be accounted for by the calendar change of 1752; (2) Henry Stauffer, of the borough of Lancaster, cordwainer, at the time of his marriage on August 3, 1763, purchased household goods from Vincent Stauffer, Jr. of Manheim Township; and (3) a son of Henry has the rather uncommon Stauffer name of Christoph, the given name of Georg Christoph Haller. Henry\'s name appears regularly in the tax lists of Lancaster. In Captain Andrew Graff\'s Company of Militia in January 1776, he did duty by standing guard at the Lancaster Barracks and Magazine as Sergeant until July 1776. On October 25, 1777. Henry Stouffer, gentleman, was appointed by the Supreme Executive Committee of Pennsylvania as First Lieutenant of a Company of Foot in the Fifth Battalion of Militia in Lancaster County. His pension Record, giving further details of his service, is on file in the National Archives. He was High Constable of Lancaster County and Clerk of the Market from 1783 until his death (Papers of the Lancaster Historical Society, vol. XXVI, p. 121). In 1799, he purchased a lot on Queen Street, Lancaster. The 1790 census shows 1 male over 16, 4 males under 16, and 4 females. The following information about his children was obtained from his will which was dated May 18, 1805, and proved May 27, 1805, from his pension file, and from Proceedings of the Pennsylvania German Society IV, 90.
