1764 COLONIAL DEED YORK, MAINE * 4-GENERATION OWNERSHIP BY TRAFTON FAMILY:
$90.00

PRE-REVOLUTIONARY COLONIAL DEED 17644 Generations of TRAFTON FAMILY OF MAINE as of 1764
In this document, Thaddeus Trafton, gentleman, and wife Abigail of York, Maine for three pounds deeded to son Thaddeus Trafton jun, husbandman, \"all those three shares throughout the land now or formerly called the common and undivided land within the township of York.\"
Research, I believe, goes like this: The land at York Ferry had originally belonged to fisherman Thomas Trafton (1). He deeded the land to son blacksmith Zacheus Trafton (2), who then deeded to son gentleman Thaddeus Trafton (3) who then deeded to son husbandman Thaddeus Trafton Jr (4). The deed guarantees that as of 1764 four generations of unbroken, lineal Trafton land ownership at the Ferry. Thaddeus Trafton Sr (3), grantor of this deed, was a blacksmith born in 1716 and married in 1738 Abigail Lewis.
The deed was signed by Thaddeus Trafton and Abigail, her mark the second day of May 1764. It was witnessed by Elijah Blasdell and David Blasdell. York vital records show the Bladell men born 1743 and 1745 respectively, were sons of Ebenezer and Lydia (Webber) Blasdell. On the back of the deed Edward Cutt as Justice of the Peace examined the deed, and it was recorded by Daniel Moulton, Registrar, May 3rd 1764.
The deed measures 7 1/2 x 7 1/2\". It has a split 2/3 of the way along the center fold. The wax seals are beneath the papers. There is toning and discoloration along folds, but the script is dark and legible. It will be mailed first class carefully folded along the existing folds. I will be listing more early Maine and New Hampshire documents as time permits. Please ask any questions. Thank you.
