Original, Colonial 18th CenturyAlbany-Area,Hudson River Valley, New York Dutch Knickerbocker Family Register for the Johannes Yates & Rebecca Waldron Family
Approx. 8-1/2 x 10-3/8 inches. 2 pages, written both sides of a single vellum sheet. Overall Very Good condition, noting one hole in bottom left hand quadrant.
Notes the scribe\'s birth date, \"1716 August the 12th Was born IJohannes Yates at Albany;\" his wedding date in 1737 to Rebecca Waldron; her birthdate in 1719; as well as the birthdates of their ten children. Additionally, Johannes records the death dates of both his parents as well as his wife\'s parents, and five of his & Rebecca\'s ten children. In terms of dating the writing of these records, no marriage dates are given for any of the children, and no one follows up with death dates for Johannes & Rebecca. The latest record is daughter Engeltie\'s deathSeptember 23, 1775, not long before that of Johannes. [Engeltie was married in 1772 to Cornelius Van Schaack, and it\'s unknown why that record is not recorded here.]
An unusually early family register.
Johannes (John) Yates was a blacksmith like his father and grandfather. He appears to have died in 1776. His father-in-law Pieter (Peter) Waldron was an upwardly mobile businessman in the Albany fur trade when he died prematurely in 1725. Both Yates and Waldron were firemasters of their wards. Yates owned several properties,including a farm in Rensselaerswyck.
