Paste link into a browser window: [isdntekvideo]This shape memory wire begins to transition at typical room temperatures (above 15ºC) so it is stiff to work with unless you are in a cold environment. At room temperatures it is like a spring. It has excellent mechanical characteristics: stiffness continues to increase until temperatures around 70ºC. Do not buy this nitinol until after you have some experience with traditional normal transition temps (40º - 80ºC) first to understand it better.

It comes pre-treated straight, so if you crumple up a chunk and exit the fridge, it will return to straight as a ruler like huh I did not just see that. If you subsequently bend it to feel the resistance of the spring, the resistance will increase when you hold it over a tolerable heat source such as a small flame.
This is 1mm diameter, which is pretty thick. 4x thicker than the common .25mm. Avoid .25 as it is too thin for any serious tricks. At room temp, this wire is more stiff than our higher transition temp wires (since room temp is closer to its transition temp). The wire has a lustrous titanium color (dark grey)with a bluish oxide tint on its surface. When freshly cut, the inner core is nickel white. Nitinol is very abrasion resistant and has self-healing properties, so the wire is quite hard to cut and kink. It doesnot require any special handling or protections from oxidation or moisture, and is non-toxic. The only way to damage it is by overheating it, so if you are using electricity instead of hot water to activate it besure to use a current limiting circuit.
