This spectacular red and reddish purple jasper that we have hand collected from our property is a deep intense red to maroon color, with bands and streaks of purple hematite, pink or white quartz and occasional accents of bright red, yellow, orange or even green. Some pieces are more of an agatized jasper than a true jasper. We have affectionately named this gorgeous stone Adobe Highlands Red Wine Jasper after the location of our land in the beautiful Sonoran Desert of Arizona.
It is a very dense and solid stone that exhibits little to no fracturing- just an all around beautiful lapidary material. The photos show the stones wet and dry. Some pieces may still have some of the caliche matrix attached to them. Occasionally some small crystal pockets can be found at the quartz bands. The amazing reds and yellows come from iron oxides in composition of the stone as it was forming. The purples and purplish grays are due to hematite. This is a natural material, so the stones you receive may not match the photos exactly.
These stones are perfect for small slab saws like the L'il Trimmer or a 6" Rock Rascal, or for cutting into small slabs to polish on a 10" vibrating lap.
Stones range in size from approximately two inches to 4 inches, with the average piece about 2/12 inches long x 1 1/2 inches wide. There are approximately 3 to 4 stones in a 1 lb lot.
