This thin section was cut from an amethyst stalactitethat is sometimes found in amethyst geodes from Uruguay. Wholestalactites are quite rare and very expensive. The thin sections are cut3/16 inch in thickness, much like you would cut slices of meat.The sections are then polished on both sides. Smaller diameter sectionsare almost always made into jewelry, most often by wire-wrapping thepiece. Larger diameter sections are usually used as specimens.These are very beautiful and unique pieces.

This is a near-perfect large stalactite section. It has good contrast, with a mixed colored central area of crystals and agate. It does have a couple chips in two of the outside amethyst crystals, but they are hard to see in the photos. The chips do not show at all from the number side of the specimen.( by thumb nail in photo number 2) This is a SPECTACULAR section and it displays very well.

This particular slice measures 3 1/4 inches wide (7.2 cm) by 2 1/2 inches tall, and 1/4 inches thick. This piece weighs 2.1 ounces (61 grams). The last photo is backlit.
