•Refreshed• Kaywoodie Drinkless c.1936 Imported Briar 7797B 4-Hole Stinger Pipe:
$124.99

This Kaywoodie Drinkless pipe is a rare find for collectors of tobacco estate pipes. Made in the United States in 1936, this imported briar pipe features a 4-hole stinger filter and a billiard body shape. The brand is well-known among tobacco enthusiasts for its quality and durability.

The pipe has been refreshed and is in excellent condition, making it a great addition to any collection. Its unique history and design make it a must-have for any serious pipe collector. Don't miss out on the opportunity to own a piece of tobacco history.

An early 1930’s (1935-1936) Kaywoodie Drinkless pipe stamped ‘Imported Briar,’ which I understand was introduced circa 1936 and the four number nomenclature , 7797B, which was pre-1936. Of course the 4-Hole Stinger is intact. The pipe was sanitized, hand polished and the bowl was preserved with MC Bauman Uncle Matt’s Bowl Black. In fine condition for this ~88 year old vintage classic! I took some extra pics, so you will be able to see a glimpse of what I have in hand. This will be a fine addition to any vintage pipe connoisseur’s collection.

A little bit about my process for those interested. First, many “restored” pipes that I examine are just buffed up with wax on a buffing wheel. When I use the term ‘restored,’ I mean carefully examined & inspected prior to starting. I have even begun using a fiber optic video system that I call ‘Bowloscopy’ for a detailed exam of the bowl interior! The briar is often taken down by serially hand sanding and polishing. Any repairs, I fully disclose. In fact, I use NO power tools for pipe restoration. It is all handwork. Importantly, I NEVER use beeswax on any pipe!! Beeswax discolors starting at 145°F and I shudder to think how much rim char is out there from scalded beeswax! My pipes are finished with 100% natural oils, gums and waxes in proprietary blends that I have developed over the years to both use and sell. There are no synthetic solvents, finishes or varnishes ever used. Absolutely NO mineral or ‘obsidian’ oil is ever used on my pipes. Olive oil is popular, but that’s goes rancid quickly!

I use the term ‘Refreshed’ for near mint condition pipes that require no restoration, but are thoroughly cleaned, sanitized, polished and protected that are like new condition ready for use.

I take great care in cleaning and sanitizing the pipes that I personally restore & refresh, so they are ready for use in a safe/clean state. While I strive to preserve the bowl cake, only if it is of high quality. Not only is the cake integral to the quality of the vintage pipe, but I trim, polish and sanitize it very carefully. Bowloscopy has been very helpful in this regard. The entire stummel is refurbished and cleaned. The draft hole and smoke column are optimized and sanitized for as perfect a ‘draw,’ as I am able to achieve. While I occasionally will disclose and provide a replacement stem, otherwise I serially sand and polish the stems by hand for look and function. Not all tooth marks/damage are removable/reparable on ebonite stems, though maximum effort is made to improving every stem while preserving structural and functional features. I strive to preserve original stamping, but at times this is not possible or simply absent. The button is always ‘tuned,’ reshaped and/or polished, the slot and stem column are reamed/polished to maximize the air flow and optimize the draw. This button area is mission critical in both pipe making and restoration as this is our mouth contact with the pipe! That final laminar and splay of smoke that flows onto the palate makes all the difference in a well crafted pipe. I sometimes reference using my high proof bourbon long soak. This is a full shot of 125 bourbon proof that sits in the bowl and stem for about 24 hours. The alcohol aids in permeating the cake & briar with a rich bourbon flavor. All the alcohol eventually evaporates off. What remains is a very nice aid to breaking in a new pipe with fine tobacco for a rich flavor.

A word of caution: There is a lot of nonsense in cyberspace about pipe products and chemicals used! Foremost is ozone! As an O3 gas, it only deodorizes the surface! Ozone does not solve the problem in a malodorous or ghosted pipe (like spraying perfume on roadkill). I use 190 Proof grain alcohol and a UV 253nm sterilization cabinet to sanitize every pipe and remove/solve any odor problems in my pipes! As a physician, I use only the highest quality, food grade, natural products and well understand how they work chemically and practically in safe and durable pipe restoration work in each pipe compartment.

Pipe restoration and carving are some of my favorite pastimes and you can be assured that I have spent at least 4-6 hours in actual handwork over several days on every pipe restoration. My passion for excellence in preservation of master pipe makers works is most important to me, not whether the pipe sells or not. I do research each and every pipe that I choose to restore! History is important to me and I always strive to embody the creator of these masterpieces in my restorations. Your purchase and trust is much appreciated. This allows me to partially support my obsession and craft. I do not do this work for the money, I simply love restoring vintage pipes and creating pipes that are top smokers. I am happy to do a limited number of custom restorations at reasonable costs for friends and clients. My friends & I have revolutionized vulcanite stem restoration and are always up for new challenges, at full durability! If you are in need of a detailed restoration for a favorite pipe and like my work, please contact me. I thank you for reading!
