\'RARE\' Mosher\'s 1884 Pat., BIRMINGHAM PLANE CO. No. 100 Adj. Iron Smooth Plane:
$754.95

Here we have a \'RARE\' Antique, Mosher\'s 1884 Patented, BIRMINGHAM PLANE MFG. CO. No. 100 Adjustable Iron Smooth Plane. The Birmingham Plane Company (also known as Birmingham Plane Mfg. Co.), located in Birmingham Connecticut, manufactured planes from 1884-1900, although the company existed from 1855 to 1891. In 1891 the company changed its name to the Derby Plane Co., and continued manufacturing until 1900, although many of the blades continued to carry the Birmingham markings. This is the George D. Mosher (Birmingham, CT), Dec. 16, 1884 Patent No. 309,400 for an all iron casted woodworking plane. This is an 8-1/2\" long Smooth Plane that is 2-1/8\" wide and has a 1-3/4\"cutter. This plane has not been \'messed\' with. It has NOT been repainted and has approx. 40-45% of its original japanning remaining. The full length cutting iron is correct and is stamped by the Birmingham Plane Mfg. Co. The blade still has the tiny nub on the back that is suppose to \'catch\' in the slots cut in the frog surface. EVERY ONE of these planes all have the same problem, the thin metal breaks out between the slots where the blade is normally positioned, and this one is just like that. The good thing is that the lever cap can be tightened such that it still holds the blade tight to the frog, and then your raise and lower this set with the side lever. You probably won\'t be using this RARE plane, and adding it to your collection. These Mosher planes are getting harder and harder to find !! A nice RARE one for your collection !!
