Incredible 2 Volume Grand Tour Albums Albumen Photo Prints 1870s/80s. Each large gilt edged tome measures about 14” x 17” x 2” and is very heavy with heavy cardboard-like pages. Covers appear to be worn leather. Each tome is chock full of original sepia tone albumen prints taken during Grand Tours of Europe, Middle East and North Africa. One tome contains about 146 photos of various sizes, some quite large. (Three images are loose). The other album has 70 images of various sizes. The tour was conducted from the yachts Dolly Varden and Thais. The dates that are handwritten on some of the pages are from 1876 to 1882. Genre scenes, cityscapes, country scenes, animals, portraits, churches, artistic poetic scenes, architecture and much more. Some of the most interesting are high jinks and group scenes aboard the yacht with the captain and passengers. Areas covered are Italy, Sicily, Belgium, Germany, Egypt etc. Real treasures and a wonderful chronicle of 19th century life and lifestyle. In very good condition commensurate with age and use.
