-EXTREMELY RARE- Silver Toned WW2 Erwin Rommel 1941 Africa Campaign Medal/Coin.

This medal/coin is currently the only genuine medal of its kind for sale on the internet, as I quite literally have not been able to find another that has been up for sale since 2020 other than repos, which it was last sold by sale for $1,200 USD. Unfortunately I do not have the certificate as it was lost, but i’m 100% certain that it is real. Medal has never been cleaned before, and the original toning has begun to turn the medal that beautiful blackened silver that we all love on coins and medals!

Reverse: DEN · DEVTSCHEN · HELDEN · IN NORD-AFRIKA, camel standing right; to right, column inscribed SOLLVM SCHLACHT/ VND/ VOR/ TOBRVK; palm frond in background, to lower right, pith helmet and laurel branch; MCMXXXXI in exergue

Background:

Medal was designed by world renown German sculptor/medallist Karl Goetz. Karl Goetz made a wide variety of different types of medals and commemorative coins depicting German propaganda, artwork, and political events of his time. The “North Africa Campaign” first started when Nazi Germanys ally, Italy, declared war on the Allied powers on the 10th of June 1940, entering them into the conflict. The British Commonwealth Expeditionary Forces would attack the Italian ‘Fort Capuzzo’ in Italys colony of Libya almost immediately after the declaration of war, resulting in its successful capture but would lead to an Italian counter-offensive which failed and lasted only 2 months. The Italian ‘10th Army’ was destroyed in the event and the Nazi German “Afrika Korps” commanded by Erwin Rommel (Who would later earn the title “Desert Fox”) was sent to North Africa in 1941 to reinforce and support the Italian Forces in order to prevent an Axis Defeat. Ultimately after a series of hard fought battles and massive amount of casualties on both sides as well as material loss, the Axis forces were defeated. Granting the allies a southern entrance into Europe.
