[ANTIQUE POSTCARD 1910/1920 - TRAVEL - JAPAN]
To be continued in my store, some very rare original photographs by René MOREAU, representing celebrities of the time (around 1900/1910), often autographed and signed (personal copies of the photographer), and various other photographs from the same provenance

-
As is often the case, there are very few biographical elements on this very interesting photographer, outside the instructions of the BNF which remains very summary (research work remains to be done...)
Dates of birth and death unknown
Photographer in Angers from 1895 (unless I\'m mistaken) to 1904 at 1 Rue d\'Alsace
Then he moved to Paris at 29 Bd des Italians (registered in the Bottin from 1904 to 1908) where he painted portraits of celebrities of the time: Auguste RODIN, Loïe FULLER, Charles LEANDRE, Franck BOSTOCK, Aristide BRUANT, and without doubt others...
Around 1907 he joined forces with M.-F. KIVATIZKY and produced numerous illustrated postcards (Fancy Cards)
 [Mark Fedorovic Kivatitsky]
Place and date of birth: Poltava, Mars 9, 1873Place and date of death: Auschwitz, November 2, 1943Profession: photographer
He was born into a Jewish family (his name is Mordouch Fišelevic). In 1893 he began his career as a photographer, moving to Melitopol and opening his own studio there; in 1897, he joined the Russian Photographic Society (Russkoe fotograficeskoe obšcestvo) in Moscow, which rewarded him twice for his work; in 1901 he opened a photographic studio in Ekaterinoslav called “Preemniki Kivatickogo”, in which he produced works of excellent quality, awarded by the Vitebsk Photographic Circle (Vitebskij fotograficeskij kružok) and the Photographic Society of Saint Petersburg (Sankt- Peterburgskoe fotograficeskoe obšcestvo). In 1905, at the second kyiv photographic exhibition, organized by the “Dager” association, he won first prize for his works. After 1907, he emigrated to Paris and opened the photographic studio “Moreau & Kivatizki”, which produced postcards, photographs from the First World War and photos of female figures.
In 1924 he moved to Turin with his wife Tina Melitova (1879-?) to collaborate with the company \"Fotocelere A. Campassi\", founded in 1908 via Marocchetti, 41 by Angelo Campassi, a company famous for \"the application commercial and industrial photographic art and in particular for the manufacture of silver bromide postcards\" which was active until the 1960s. He remained there to work for fifteen years until he was deported to Auschwitz during World War II.]

After 1908 René Moreau seemed to abandon this activity (and his partner...who continued until 1924 in Paris), and emigrate to more distant horizons (in Japan), where we find him photographer  on behalf of Studio Tronchet (5 Rue Tronchet in Paris)
A René Moreau (but is it the same photographer or a simple homonym?) is also known for his photographs of Colonial Africa in the 1930s (\"Missions Jean d\'Esme\", often reproduced in the form of postcards, or illustrating the numerous books of Jean d\'Esme)  -
