This is a fascinating and whimsical Antique Old Primitive American Folk Art WWI Patriotic Eagle Painted Trunk, likely dating to the 1910's - early 1920's. This piece has been painted blue with red trimming andhas red & white stripes on the edges. Painted on the front of the trunk are an American bald eagle, the words: "God Bless America," and very folksy and unusual looking stars. The original leather handle appears to have been replaced long ago with some old nautical rope. Approximately 28 1/4 inches wide x 15 1/4 inches tall x 8 1/2 inches deep. Good condition for a century of age and usage, with expected paint flaking, oxidation, and an honest patina throughout. One of the two latches does not hook (please see photos.)
