Napoleon - An Intimate Portrait

Napolon in Uniform

Napolon in Uniform

Baron Pierre-Narcisse Gurin - c. 1811

By 1810, Napolon had been at war almost constantly for 15 years. He had administered an empire of more than 80 million inhabitants, with unrelenting attention to detail, for 10 years. Although he was still near the top of his game, the effects of so much stress are beginning to show.

Drawing on vellum paper, with gouache
