Charles was the son of Queen Hortense and Louis Bonaparte. The birth certificate is signed by Napoléon, Joséphine, Napoléon’s brother Joseph and his wife Julie. Signed just prior to the coronation, it is one of the few documents in existence with both the future Emperor and Empress’ signatures together.
