Vachette -

At Napoléon’s request, Hortense married his brother Louis Bonaparte, and the two became king and queen of Holland. Although they had three sons (one of them the future Napoléon III), the marriage was unhappy and they separated in 1810. Hortense always remained supportive of her stepfather, which led to her banishment from France after his final defeat.
