On October 15, 1840, at 5:30 p.m., Napoléon’s coffin was carried aboard La Belle Poule, anchored in Jamestown harbor. A single, brilliant star shown directly above the boat. Isabey later received a request from King Louis-Philippe to draw the scene, following the return of Napoléon’s remains.
