This is a phenomenal antique print that isover 270 years old (1730s). It depicts a mufti (Sunni Islamic scholar) who is reading (orating, preaching) from a book, presumably the Al-Kutub Al-Sittah (the six books) or Quran. These are theprimary hadithsthatform the basis of all jurisprudence methodologies within Sunni Islam. A mufti is an interpreter or expounder of Islamic law (Sharia and fiqh). In religious administrative terms, a mufti is roughly equivalent to a deacon to a Sunni population. A muftiat or diyanet is a council of muftis. A rare bit of Sunni Islamic history (Sunni Muslims, Sunnis, Sunnites or simply Muslims)! The print is a high quality antique copperengraving. You can clearly see the platemark. The detail is amazing. Extremely rare. It is hard to show how beautiful this print is in these photos on . You can see the impression of the plate mark. The paper is thick and of high quality so it holds the details well.
